CountryBlock (CIPRG) downtime
Projects September 8th, 2007I didn't notice yet the CIPRG had some problems caused by the update-proxy,
these are fixed now, and new problems will be auto-forwarded to my email-account from now on.
Sorry for any inconveniences! We're back, and everything's running smoothly now 🙂
Update: something is wrong again, check the comments!
Update: Up and running on mirror hosting!

love ur projects, please bring it back
October 6th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
it's back ^^ 😉
October 7th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Hmm, so apparently it wasn't:
I think somebody injected the SQL somehow. The database crashed. If it happens again I'll look into it further.

Hmm,
the site was offline for some time and when it got back something was wrong with the CIPRG _again_
I'll try to fix it ASAP, but those who want can use this mirror:
http://shareaza-security.puffinhost.com/countryblock/

And then it was back 🙂
Nice cece 😉

Actually the service still isn't back: the SQLite file can't be generated because when I chmod the dir to 777 (writing permissions) an internal server error will occur.
And atm my host is doing everything about it to make the problem last as long as possible imho.

K, since there's no way of getting the service running again on this server, I put a redirect to a mirror.
(Thanks Wout000)!
This is the one located at http://shareaza-security.puffinhost.com/countryblock/
Sorry again for any inconveniences. I noticed alot of ppl tried to generate their blocklists and these won't have worked for a week or two. till today!
Cheers

I guess its down again... 🙁
November 19th, 2007 at 12:02 am
And a question: from what database are the lists created?
I would like to see this tool working again, i think it is the only tool out there that can provider country-lists. I've searched for a long time to find a substitute but with no success.
Keep up the good work...

You're right, it's down atm. I'll have to build in better proxy support because our update resource seems to block us after x updates / month.
I'm gonna contact Wout000 then (who hosts the countryblock mirror).
In the meantime I'll prolly rewrite the script to use MySQL (atm it uses SQLite). That'll have it's pros and contras; it'll take a long time to update the database, but that's a server-side problem.
The service uses Software77 as an update resource: http://software77.net/cgi-bin/ip-country/geo-ip.pl
If you wish you can run the script on your own server (if you have any). It's written for PHP5 but isn't hard to convert to PHP4, it also needs SQLite atm.

hello agin...
i realized that the dl for you'r script is not working. i told a friend of mine about your script. he was really interested to see how it works. he is basically doing the same thing with powershell atm and now wants to see how to do the same thing with php.
atm the lnk to your script redirects to the sharezasecurity page 🙁
could you please fix that? this would be very appreciated... 🙂
December 8th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Oh no.... The country block script is brocken agin.... 🙁
December 9th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
For some reason the country block is working again... 😉
So what about the script... ?
December 15th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
i'm sorry, i was in exams mate 🙂
i'm sorry the link isn't working, it's because i placed a http redirect in the directory,
script can be downloaded from http://services.ce3c.be/dl/ciprg.zip
this is a temporary download link tho.. as soon as i've got my new server ready everything should be fixed 🙂
December 15th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
as for the several downtimes:
the update resource only allows 15 downloads in 30 days IIRC, therefor i have to put in a proxy each month,
that'll be fixed in a next version tho.
just don't have that much time atm 🙂
i'm also planning on converting the script so it'll work with MySQL too instead of SQLite

also thx for the script lnk... may the force be with you...

Hi, its User again...
I noticed that the site http://shareaza-security.puffinhost.com/countryblock/ is completely down. Do You know if it is gone for good? Will you link Your stuff anywhere else?
February 2nd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
I'm looking in to it 🙂 Didn't notice shareaza-security went offline yet..
I will also provide it on this server again, I rewrote it for MySQL a few days ago. It wasn't hosted on this server because there occured an internal server error (not my fault but the host's, and they didn't seem to be able to fix it, it got do with SQLite also.. MySQL should work fine)
Is the e-mail address you supplied when commenting correct? That way I'll keep you updated if anything changes if you want.
February 2nd, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Hell yes, thats good to hear!!
And i'm honoured that you'll keep me updated. The email is fake (a bad habit from to much bloging) but [email removed] is not. Thats a real lifesaver that this project will be continued.
thx a lot
